Church Publishing Responds to Tight Economy
with 90-Day Payment Terms for Congregations

(New York, October 17, 2008) – Recognizing the particular hardships placed on church budgets during the current economic climate, Church Publishing Incorporated (CPI) today announced the availability of “generously” extended payment terms on orders totaling $400 or more placed by December 31, 2008.

“Most businesses expect payment in 30 days, and we typically are no exception,” said Mark Dazzo, CPI vice president of sales and marketing. “However, with the significant challenges being posed by our economy – especially for churches, and at this busy time in the church year – we hope to relieve some budgetary pressures by providing 90-day terms on purchases between now and year’s end for our core institutional customers.”

In view of the recent market volatility, CPI addressed the need for an immediate response to its church customers during strategic meetings in New York last week. “We realize church budgets are always tight,” said Dazzo, “but these are extreme times for our best customers. Hopefully, our extended terms will allow churches a little breathing room in their 2008 and 2009 budgets. They’ll be able to order and use our resources beginning now and payment won’t be due until well into the new year.”

The extended terms are applicable on any and all purchases from Church Publishing Incorporated, including Episcopal Church staples such as the Book of Common Prayer and the 1982 Hymnal, Singers Edition. It extends to include all curriculum offerings from Morehouse Education Resources, including the popular Godly Play Christian formation program, plus the comprehensive offerings from Morehouse Church Supplies.

To take advantage of the extended terms, churches should simply indicate 90-day terms on all orders totaling $400 or more placed between now and the end of the year. Orders may be placed through the CPI customer service department by phone, 800-242-1918, fax, 717-541-8136, email, churchpublishing@cpg.org, or mail, 4775 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112. The offer is available to any church or congregation. CPI will reinstate its normal payment terms on January 1, 2009, although it reserves the right to change the terms of this offer at anytime.

Church leaders are encouraged to browse CPI’s new website, www.churchpublishing.org, to see the latest product offerings.

Founded in 1918 and headquartered in New York, CPI is an official publisher of worship materials and resources for The Episcopal Church, plus a multi-faceted publisher and supplier to the broader ecumenical marketplace. In the combined roles, he directed the marketing and business activities of adult curriculum resources, accounting for approximately $17 million in sales, plus developed and implemented plans for combined sales of approximately $9 million annually across direct sales, retail store, internet, event, and wholesale sales channels for  music and youth resources.

Joining UMPH as a Cokesbury store trainee in 1984, Gnegy’s positions there also have included director of curriculum brand management (2006-2008); director of music resources (1997- 2004), product management director – academic and professional resources (1991-1992) and house products marketing manager (1986-1991).  Notable accomplishments include reaching the $1 million sales milestone of the Cokesbury Music Service in 2005 - a program he began from scratch in 1999, and being among those responsible for reaching a $12 million milestone in sales of The Faith We Sing, a congregational songbook produced in December 2000, with fifteen editions in print. He also led the launch campaign for The United Methodist Hymnal (1985-1990), achieving sales of $20 million in its first year, and with lifetime sales of more than five million copies for sales in excess of $50 million.

Outside of the office, Gnegy has served as adjunct professor of business since 2006 at Aquinas College, Nashville, leading business courses for bachelor and associate degree program students.  An active member of Nashville’s Hamilton United Methodist Church, he has served as director of music since 1990; as Sunday School teacher since 1982; plus, at various times, as church treasurer, worship committee member, chair of the administrative board, and chair of the council on ministries.  In addition, and as a  former Eagle Scout himself, he donates time as a Boy Scout merit badge counselor for six music and business badges, as baseball coach for special needs children in the Challenger program, and as an active volunteer with Room in the Inn, Community Care Fellowship, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Mercy Children’s Clinic ministries.

At the foundation of the Colloquim’s desire to address the future and its implications in our churches is an awareness of the importance of lifelong Christian formation and how it touches all ages and all areas of the church’s mission. Centered in Baptism and shaped by the Holy Eucharist, how we attend to the formation of all who walk through our doors by what we offer in education, liturgy, pastoral care, service, outreach and fellowship is foundational to addressing future leaders and seekers in our congregations. This pre-conference track on Christian formation will explore a way to understand the mission of the Church in a broader and more comprehensive way, looking to the future.  The premises of Christian formation – holistic integration of learning, the importance of context, the need for interdependence and cooperation, and the value of relationships and dialogue – all inform how we conduct the Church’s mission. Bring your stories and passions for education and formation and learn about some new initiatives that have begun in local settings.
