This book brings into dialogue current theological, sociological, anthropological, and psychological thought with the pastoral rites of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, along with the various forms of the Daily Office. It is successor to the most commonly referenced books on these rites, including A Priest’s Handbook (Morehouse) and Pastoral and Occasional Liturgies: A Ceremonial Guide (Cowley). The new book also builds upon Malloy’s Celebrating the Eucharist (Church Publishing).
Patrick Malloy is H. Boone Porter Professor of Liturgics at the General Theological Seminary in New York. Earlier, he was a staff member of the Notre Dame Center for Pastoral Liturgy and taught at St. John's University, Collegeville, MN, and Duquesne University, Pittsburgh. The Rev. Dr. Malloy holds a Ph.D. in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame and is a former member of the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music of the Episcopal Church. He is a Church Publishing author and Episcopal priest.
