Resources for the Easter Season
Hymns for Streaming
As many churches continue to offer worship online, we are pleased to offer a selection of hymns for free use during the Easter season. See the full list.
Devotional reading is a spiritual practice suitable to the full Christian year, not simply Advent and Lent. We are offering two books for the Easter season: Kate Moorehead’s Resurrecting Easter and Franklin Brookhart’s Living the Resurrection are both available.
Dean Wolfe, rector of St. Bartholomew’s in New York City, notes about Moorehead’s “compelling essays” that “Kate has a wonderful way of lovingly confronting her readers with the essential truths of the Christian faith.” These daily meditations help retain the focus of Easter throughout the length of the Great Fifty Days.
Frank Brookhart takes stories of the resurrection and illuminates a way for Christians and seekers to explore life in the new creation. Tying the Gospel narrative to our lives as followers of Jesus, he proposes a means for transforming people and churches through living into the resurrection with the Risen Lord.
Drawn to the Gospels
For each Sunday during Easter, Jay Sidebotham offers a cartoon illustration and text of the gospel for individual reflection, virtual group settings, or at home with your family. These amusing and original reflections deepen scriptural engagement among members of the Episcopal Church, including youth groups, and will inspire some fun in the process.
Building Faith Brick By Brick
Knowing how much Lego® bricks continue to be popular with children, the author dug deep into the well of creativity to meld together a new way of teaching the stories of God. We have compiled a selection of stories with lesson plans from Emily Slichter Given's Building Faith Brick By Brick, that can be used at home with children through Pentecost.
These Easter resources are available until June 1, 2020.
Book of Common Prayer
For those who are at home and do not have a copy, we have made an easy-to-navigate PDF version of the Book of Common Prayer available in English and Spanish.
Musical Settings for Noonday and Compline
Many churches are offering compline online. Download this handy booklet for singing the Noonday Office and Compline containing appropriate hymns, psalms, lessons, responsories, etc. and follow along at home.
Resources for Adults, Youth, and Children
Brian Sellers-Petersen's Harvesting Abundance provides inspiration for planting a modern day Victory Garden in your own backyard, roof, or front porch. Available until May 31, 2020.
As church leaders seek creative ways to communicate and connect with their congregations, Keith Anderson and Elizabeth Drescher's Click2Save REBOOT offers a practical how-to guide for bridging social media and parish ministry. Available until May 31, 2020.
Denial Is My Spiritual Practice (And Other Failures of Faith)
Rachel G. Hackenberg and Martha Spong offer their own stories as evidence that God remains, both when faith fails and when faith finds new understanding. They combine stark life experiences, offbeat spiritual perspectives, and Scripture to offer comfort, grace, laughter, and a few tears along the way.
The Digital Cathedral
Keith Anderson's The Digital Cathedral is for anyone who seeks to effectively minister in a digitally integrated world, and who wishes to embody the networked, relational, and incarnational characteristics of that ministry.
The Very Best Day
For churches and families, The Rev. Lauren Villemuer-Drenth has written a lesson plan which includes discussion questions and activities for each of the seven practices of The Way of Love to accompany Roger Hutchison's The Very Best Day.
We are also pleased to offer a selection of coloring pages.
Call On Me
Jenifer Gamber and Sharon Ely Pearson offer a creative compilation of over 100 original prayers for teens. Includes a wealth of diverse prayers on all manner of topics from prayers for the days of the week, to seasons of the year. Youth will find prayers to celebrate personal achievements and to address obstacles to grace and faith. Available until June 1, 2020.
When Suffering Persists
Frederick W. Schmidt explores ways to understand suffering, and offers a theology that takes the devastating character of suffering seriously, one that truly allows us to help people in pain. Available until June 1, 2020.
