The Power of Youth

Rodger Nishioka on Being Visionaries and Prophets

Rodger Nishioka, Bronwyn Clark Skov

Jan/2013, DVD

ISBN-13: 846863019137

This complete video program for teens features youth specialist Rodger Nishioka—along with a special appearance by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori—in eight video segments. Each segment is then discussed by a group of high-school teens under the facilitation of the Missioner for Youth for the Episcopal Church, Bronwyn Clark Skov.

All videos are excerpted from Rodger’s and Katharine’s presentations at the Episcopal Youth Event 2011, focusing on what it means for youth to be visionaries and prophets in today’s teen culture. At times challenging, often amusing and always relevant, these presentations challenge your own group to “keep the discussion going” using the included study materials. Each session would easily fill a 60-minute class session.

At the 2011 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) in Minnesota Rodger Nishioka's presentations were beyond just being the star of the event.  The reaction from the young people clearly indicated he was a supernova.  Now that incredible presentation can come into our local ministries.  The resource gives you everything you need in a carefully presented and thought out format that will draw your young people into a deeper discussion of the topics.  Don't spend another penny on youth ministry resources until you own "The Power of Youth." Jay Phillippi, Diocesan Youth Missioner, Episcopal Diocese of Western New York

"I have been able to see Rodger in person. He is very dynamic and has great insights. His words are challenging, engaging, and encouraging. He seeks to help the youth look at their values and how they apply scripturally. The topics are on target for today’s youth. In the Power of Youth study, I found there to be more than sufficient conversation starters and to be great ways to open the door for more in-depth discussion. I want two of them!" Sabrina Evans, Director of Christian Formation, Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City OK

"From Roger’s inspiring words to the thoughtful responses of the young people, this study will assist you in challenging your group to think about what it means to be a Christian today.  The helpful instructions and poignant reflection guides offer the opportunity to create an environment where personal and communal faith are nurtured and sharpened.  This curriculum could easily be used for a weekend retreat with young people leading the sessions.  Whether you are a volunteer or a paid staff person this study is a great resource to have in your library." Andrew Kellner, Canon for Family & Young Adult Ministries & founder of City Camp, The Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA

"The Power of Youth is dynamic, fun, engaging, ecumenically-toned and a wonderful tool for ministry with youth. The study guide is simple to use and the video format easily lends itself to deepening conversations and community building. You will not regret getting this ministry resource and using it!" Wade Zick, Associate Conference Minister of Faith Formation for Children and Youth, Minnesota Conference United Church of Christ

"The Power of Youth is a unique tool for parishes and dioceses that want to engage youth where youth are, and walk with them as they explore their own God given prophetic voices." Missy Morain, Director of Christian Formation for Children and Youth, Parish of St. Matthew (Episcopal), Pacific Palisades, CA

"The Power of Youth study is a comprehensive approach to engaging young people in issues relevant to their lives. The process is well laid-out, easy-to-follow, and theologically sound — all of which invites depth of reflection and meaningful interaction." The Rt. Rev. Brian N. Prior, Bishop, Episcopal Church in Minnesota
