Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that African Americans would not be discriminated against on the basis of color. He courageously traveled the country to make this dream come true through peaceful protests.

People of Color Who Inspire is written to supplement the stories about saints in Volume 7 of The Complete Guide to Godly Play. The lesson “The Child’s Own Saint" invites the children and Godly Play mentors to write the story of one of their own heroes. This story, and the others in this collection, serves as an example of this–a hero who is not an official saint of the church, but a Christian person who inspires us all to strive for justice, and respect the dignity of every human being.

Cheryl V. Minor is the Director of the Center for the Theology of Childhood, the academic/publishing arm of the Godly Play Foundation. For the past eighteen years she has served as Co-Rector at The Parish of All Saints' Church in Belmont, Massachusetts. With a degree in Music Education from Boston University, an M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Northcentral University in Scottsdale, AZ, her dissertation examined the impact of Godly Play on the spiritual well-being of children. Dr. Minor is also a Godly Play Trainer and has been deeply involved in designing the Godly Play Foundation's training models.

Jerome W. Berryman is the founder of Godly Play and has wide experience working with children ages 2-18. Writer, lecturer and workshop leader, Rev. Berryman is Senior Fellow of the Center for the Theology of Childhood. He is the author of The Complete Guide to Godly Play, Teaching Godly Play, Children and the Theologians, and The Spiritual Guidance of Children: Montessori, Godly Play and the Future.
