Hospitable Planet:
Faith, Action, and Climate Change
“We are at a perilous moment in the history of humans on this planet,” writes Stephen Jurovics. “Our descendants will not forgive us if we choose expediency over preserving a hospitable planet.” What does the Bible teach about the environment? The author walks through the teachings of “the Law”—the Torah—and examines its teachings about agriculture, the treatment of animals, biodiversity, paying attention, and the mindfulness of eating, among others. He comes to the conclusion that people cannot “remain indifferent to the ravaging of creation and still call themselves persons of faith.”
Jurovics goes on to outline the actions all of us can take to combat climate change. People of faith, he believes, motivated by religious beliefs, can provide the “tipping point of full engagement with climate change.”
